He wants to get married. She just wants to date. This is a mess.

okay so (posting as the woman here)

we're both in our early 30s. first time we met, he was apparently GONE for me. like decided on the spot that he was going to marry me. i did not feel this. first meeting was fine. normal. nothing special.

we've hung out four times and every single time he confesses his feelings and asks me to be his girlfriend. EVERY. TIME. it got so overwhelming i literally stopped seeing him for a while.

then we met up again recently and. he did it again.

so i told him straight up. i will date someone but i am NOT getting married. said it clearly. no ambiguity. so i also told him we shouldn't date because of that.

and this man goes "that's okay, let's date anyway."

bro.

like okay, my type or not, attraction or whatever, that's not even the point anymore. the thing is... people date and then things get serious and then marriage comes up. that's just how it works. and i have ZERO interest in getting married. so starting something feels scary when i know where it could go :/

what would you guys even do here?? would you date someone casually knowing this? or would you step back for his sake since he clearly wants marriage eventually?

he keeps saying it's fine and to just date him but. it's a lot. i told him exactly where i stand and he's still pushing like this.

i can't just date him when only i'm comfortable with this!! better to not even start.

honestly?? marriage sounds terrible to me. having kids sounds terrible. like i could potentially do marriage without kids if it was the right person but this guy is NOT that person. he's the type who wants the whole package. wife, family, kids.

so i said no. am i making the right call here lol. someone help
