I saw a hand sticking out of a wall in Shinjuku. Then I met the woman it belonged to.

I wasn't going to post this but it's been three months and I still don't take that tunnel anymore.

Okay so. There's an underground walkway in Shinjuku that connects one of the department stores to this big bookstore. Pretty normal stretch of hallway, not a lot of foot traffic. I walk through it sometimes.

About three months ago I'm going through it and I just. stop. Because there's a human hand sticking out from where the wall meets the floor. Like not lying there. Not a prop. Wrist to fingertips, just... hanging limp against the wall. Skin looked real. No blood, no nothing. Just a hand.

I stood there like "okay who thought this was funny" and kept walking. Forgot about it within a week.

Then I had to go back to the bookstore. Same tunnel. And there's a woman walking ahead of me, mid-20s. The exit on the bookstore side is an elevator so I sped up a little because if she got in without me I'd be waiting forever.

And that's when I noticed.

Her left hand was gone. From the wrist.

I thought about the hand I'd seen. Then I told myself no. Coincidence. Obviously.

So we both get in the elevator. I press 1F. She just stands there. Fine, she's probably getting off on 1 too. Except.

The elevator is moving. I can feel it moving. But 30 seconds pass. A minute passes. We are NOT arriving at 1F.

I'm staring at the ceiling trying to act normal and that's when she starts whispering something behind me. I couldn't make it out at first. I'm thinking "okay this is weird, please stop." But her voice gets louder. Clearer.

She was saying "do you want to know why I don't have a left hand?"

Over and over.

I am DRENCHED in cold sweat at this point. Standing completely still, jabbing the 1F button every few seconds, internally screaming for this elevator to just MOVE. She kept going. Same question. Same whispering-getting-louder thing. For like another full minute.

And then she started giggling.

I snapped. Spun around and yelled "WHAT ARE YOU DOING."

She didn't flinch. Didn't look up. Just kept laughing with her head down.

And right then the doors finally opened.

I walked out fast. And right as I was leaving she went quiet and said one more thing.

"You saw my left hand. You think that's where this ends?"

I basically ran.

That was three months ago. Nothing weird has happened since. But I will take literally any other route to that bookstore now. Any. Other. Route.

I genuinely don't know if she was a person or something else and I don't want to find out.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
