my bf's mom showed up at my job during my shift to tell me to break up with him

okay so I (31F) have been a hairdresser since I was 24. met my boyfriend (also 31) because he kept coming in as a regular customer, we started exchanging numbers, and eventually started dating. he works at a mid-size company, does weekend and rotating shifts, makes decent money, genuinely hardworking guy.

we've only been together 4 months but we live super close to each other. I'm in a villa unit, he's in an apartment with way more space, so I end up at his place a lot for like. home dates. we'll cook dinner, sleep over, I'll head to work from his place in the morning. normal couple stuff.

a little while back his cousin apparently spotted us leaving the apartment together and mentioned it to his mom. like "hey looks like [bf] has a girlfriend, seems like they're pretty close, have they been dating long?" type thing. then his mom came by one weekend to drop off some side dishes and must've seen my stuff around his place. my skincare, my sweats, you know.

my bf mentioned his mom had figured it out and told her about me, I didn't really think much of it at the time.

then TODAY. at my salon. during my shift. a woman walks in and I think she's a customer so I asked if she had an appointment, and she kind of hesitated and went "I'm [bf]'s mother... could you spare a moment?"

I was so caught off guard I literally walked out to the cafe next door still wearing my WORK SLIPPERS.

we sit down, barely even finish ordering coffee, and she goes: she'd like us to stop seeing each other.

"I know you must be precious to your own family too, but my son just started his job, he's probably still finding his footing, I'm worried. and you two just started dating but I've already heard about you two going in and out of each other's places twice now. I'm really sorry but I'd like you to stop seeing each other. you can tell my son I came, that's fine."

like... she was nice about it. genuinely. but the conclusion is still the same isn't it. she doesn't approve of me. that's why she came.

I was so upset I just said I'd think about it, apologized (why am I apologizing???), and let her leave. haven't told my bf yet.

and now I've been spiraling all day. is it my job? is it because I look too "catlike" and intimidating? does she think I'm cheap because we got close too fast? is it my education?

like honestly... would she have even come if I were some girl with a fancy degree and a respectable career? I genuinely don't know.

also do I even TELL my boyfriend this happened.
