My ex contacted my boyfriend for money and I had NO IDEA

So like. This is gonna sound absolutely insane but buckle up because I need to get this out.

I dated my ex for like 3 years. We just weren't compatible, you know? Different values, completely different life plans. It was rough breaking up but we did the whole clean break thing. Deleted, blocked, the works.

Then I met my current boyfriend and he's just... he's genuinely so kind. Like actually there for me kind. We've been together over a year now, people keep saying we're perfect together, marriage talk was starting to happen. I thought my ex was just gone from my life forever.

And then EVERYTHING went weird.

My boyfriend suddenly stops responding to me. Like actually stops. Won't answer calls, texts sitting unread. I'm freaking out calling him constantly. His friend finally picks up and when I ask what's going on, he's being weird about it. Apparently my boyfriend got drunk and kept rambling about my EX, saying "he contacted me, he contacted me" over and over.

I'm like okay that's weird but whatever, drunk guy shit right? Except then I find out through the friend that my ex CALLED HIM asking to borrow money.

WAIT WHAT.

Like why would my ex call my current boyfriend for MONEY. That makes zero sense. I finally get my boyfriend to meet up with me and he looks absolutely destroyed. Red eyes, just... broken.

He tells me my ex called him because my ex is drowning in debt and somehow heard I was making good money. So he got my boyfriend's number (HOW) and asked to borrow money from him. My boyfriend, being the stupidly kind person he is, was considering it because he wanted to help.

AND MY BOYFRIEND DIDN'T TELL ME.

He told my ex basically like "yeah I help her out" (which we don't even do like that) so my ex wouldn't get angry at me??? It was so messed up I actually laughed.

But then it got WORSE. His friend had been collecting evidence or whatever, and apparently my ex literally admitted he was using my boyfriend to try to get money. He found out my ex was manipulating the situation, lying about our relationship, trying to exploit the fact that my boyfriend is good-hearted.

The whole thing was my ex trying to use our past connection to scam my current boyfriend.

When my ex found out my boyfriend wasn't actually giving him money, he flipped. Started projecting all this stuff—resentment from when we broke up, jealousy, money hunger, all of it. My boyfriend had a complete breakdown.

I literally felt sick. I apologized to him even though it wasn't even my fault because I just... I couldn't stand seeing him hurt.

We decided to start fresh after that. Work through it together. And I cut my ex off completely. Like 100%.

This whole thing taught me that people are WEIRD and complicated and you never really know what someone's capable of. Don't let people's past drama become your problem. And actually treasure the people around you because honestly that's all that matters.
