3 Creepy Military Ghost Stories (legendary tier)

I wasn't going to post this but these are three stories that got passed around in my unit and I still think about them.

**Story 1: The Half-Body Crawler**

So I was artillery. Our regimental commander sent us out to support GOP border patrol for 3 nights and 4 days, and the GOP guys¹ told us this one.

Four soldiers walking single file to their guard post. Order goes: senior at the front, junior, senior, junior in the back. Standard stuff. The third guy (second senior) keeps hearing this rattling sound from behind him. Like a canteen cap. Loose. Clanking.

He's annoyed. Tells the fourth guy at the back to fix his canteen lid without even turning around.

Fourth guy says he already checked it. Lid's closed. But the sound keeps going.

So the third guy finally turns around to snap at him.

And behind the fourth soldier.

There's a soldier.

Just. The upper half. Dragging itself forward on both arms.

All four of them ran. That's the whole story. They just ran.

**Story 2: The Grandma Who Sprints**

This one I heard from a senior in the transport unit attached to our regimental HQ.

So there's a forward battery² out near the front lines, like the artillery version of a GOP outpost. One night the duty officer takes a patrol vehicle out to check on it. About 20 minutes by road, all mountains on both sides, barely any streetlights.

Halfway there, they spot an old woman. Walking on the road. With a cane.

The duty officer's first thought wasn't even "ghost", it was just "why is an old lady out here at this hour??" So he tells the driver to pull over about 200 meters ahead of her. Gets out of the car.

And then.

He starts SCREAMING at the driver to go. GO. NOW.

Driver has no idea what's happening but floors it.

Turns out the second the officer stepped out and looked back at her, she had already STARTED SPRINTING toward the vehicle. Full speed. Old lady with a cane, sprinting.

They made it to the forward battery. Duty officer told everyone what happened. And on the way back he deliberately took a different route all the way around just to avoid that road.

**Story 3: The Grandma Who Takes Out Three People at Once**

This one's from our own regimental HQ. A senior NCO told me this when I first got transferred in.

So the guard post at our HQ used to run with a primary guard and a secondary standing at separate positions. By the time I got there one side was already closed off (spoiler: this is probably why) and they just ran combined shifts with three guys together.

One night the duty NCO was on overnight rotation with the former battery commander. The commander decides to do a solo patrol of the base on his bicycle. Base is small, should take 10 to 30 minutes max.

40 minutes pass. No commander.

Duty NCO goes looking. Circles the whole base. Nothing. Eventually heads toward the guard post thinking maybe he wandered out through the gate.

Except nobody comes out of the guard post.

NCO thinks the guards fell asleep. Goes down to yell at them.

Finds the battery commander collapsed next to his bike outside.

Goes inside the post.

Both guards are flat on the ground.

They wake everyone up. Ask what happened.

Guards say: they heard a weird sound outside while on duty. Looked out. There was an old woman crouched down. Staring at them.

And then they just. blacked out.

The secondary guard heard the commotion, went outside to check, and the old woman jumped him too. Out cold.

A little while later the battery commander came by on his patrol, saw nobody responding at the post, went in to discipline them, saw them all passed out, went in to check.

Old lady ghost got him too.

The NCO told me only a handful of current officers even know this actually happened. They kept it quiet.

I think about the bike guy a lot actually. He just wanted to do his rounds.
