A single strand of hair was growing out of my outlet

I wasn't going to post this but here we go.

The first time I noticed it, my girlfriend was helping me clean my studio apartment. I'm the type of guy who just. doesn't clean. Like it wasn't hoarder-on-TV level but it was definitely Bad. She'd come over every now and then just to save me from myself.

So we're cleaning, working from opposite sides of the room, she's holding up random junk asking "keep or toss" and I'm answering without looking up. Normal stuff. And then she goes quiet.

"Hey... what's that."

She was pointing at the outlet behind a stack of magazines and old VHS tapes. And there, just. sitting there in one of the slots.

A single long strand of hair.

She looked at me. I looked at her. She KNOWS all my friends are guys. So the look she was giving me was not great.

I genuinely had no memory of ever bringing a girl with hair that long into my apartment. Zero. So I just grabbed the hair to pull it out.

It slid out.

[fshhhk]

I dropped it immediately. The feeling was so wrong I literally could not hold onto it. It felt like pulling a hair directly out of a living scalp. That specific resistance. That specific give.

The hair drifted down to the floor, all slow and floaty, like a feather. I crouched down and tried to look inside the outlet. Obviously just dark in there. Nothing to see.

I forgot about it completely after that. We finished cleaning, went to karaoke, I drank way too much, came home and passed out the second I hit my bed.

Next morning I woke up five minutes before I had to catch the train and grabbed my bag in a panic. And that's when I saw it.

Another hair. Same outlet. Hanging limp out of the slot like it had always been there.

Same length. Same person's hair, definitely.

It looked like a tentacle growing out of the wall.

I yanked it out.

[fshhhk]

Same feeling. That horrible realistic feeling in my fingers.

"God that's disgusting," I muttered to myself, and I shoved the cord from an old radio cassette player I never use into the outlet, threw the hair out the window, and left.

Told myself it blew away somewhere. Didn't think about it again.

For about a month everything was normal. Room got messy again (obviously), manga piling up next to my bed, waiting for my girlfriend to rescue me again. I'd basically forgotten the outlet existed.

Then one night I woke up to this sound.

[ga... gaga... gagaga...]

I turned the light on, confused and half asleep. The radio cassette player I'd plugged in and ignored was making this grinding, broken noise. Weird thing was, I could SEE it, even though it should've been buried behind my manga pile. The books had all collapsed and were scattered on the floor around it.

The radio static from the vibration maybe? I couldn't think of another explanation.

I went over and reached for the power button.

And that's when I realized.

The power was already off.

OFF. The machine was making sounds with the power OFF.

I picked it up with both hands to check if it was broken and

[CRACK]

Something wrong in my hands. Something that should not be there.

I turned the cassette player around.

The outlet behind it. The cord.

There was enough hair wrapped around it to fill a human head. Coiled around the cable like vines. And I could SEE, looking at the outlet, that it was GROWING out of one of the holes. Like roots. Like it had been growing this whole time.

I freaked out and just YANKED the cassette player toward me as hard as I could.

빠 지 직 빠 지 직

I felt hundreds of thousands of hairs get ripped out all at once. Like ripping them from a scalp. All of them. At the same time.

And from the other side of the outlet, something SCREAMED.

Hair poured out of the slot all at once and then thick, dark red blood started coming out of the hole.

I screamed and passed out.

When I came to, the room was soaked in blood. Hair everywhere.

I cleaned the whole apartment, packed my stuff, and left that day.

Last thing I saw before I walked out.

There was still one strand of hair hanging out of that outlet. Long. Still. Like it was waiting.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
