Brazilian ghost ship on the Amazon — nobody was on board. nobody had eyes.

Okay I wasn't going to post this but here we are.

So there's this tourist cruise ship called the *Velha Noite* that departed from Manaus, Brazil, somewhere up the Amazon. June 17, 2021. After that date? Gone from official records completely. Weather was fine. Maintenance was fine. The ship just... cut communications with zero warning and disappeared.

Three days later rescue teams finally got there.

The boat was just sitting in the middle of the river. Totally intact. Not a scratch.

And there was nobody on it.

Except. One passenger had left a voice message. And the recording starts with this barely-there voice going:

*"Something's wrong here. The river... it's calling to people."

That's it. That's the whole message.

So I linked up with a Brazilian folklore researcher and we started tracing the disappearance route, and that's when we found out about the *Capira d'Água* — basically a "water ghost" from local myth. Legend says it wanders the river at night and lures people off their boats, drags them under. The last known coordinates of the Velha Noite were right in the middle of the exact region where that legend comes from.

Spoiler: we went anyway.

Local guide warned us. We took a small boat and did the route ourselves because apparently we have no survival instincts whatsoever.

The second night is when it went bad.

Thick fog rolled over the whole river. The compass just... stopped working. And then we saw a hand. Coming up from the water.

We were panicking but before anyone could even scream, more of them appeared. Rising up around the boat. Silent. Eyes open underwater.

They weren't dressed like drowning victims. They were in FORMAL WEAR. Like. Suits. Like passengers who were supposed to be on a boat somewhere.

And every single one of them had no eyes. Just. Smooth skin where the eyes should've been.

We got rescued the next day somehow. And we managed to recover a few photos from the trip.

One of the photos had one of those eyeless figures. Standing on the boat. On OUR boat. Actually physically ON it.

But the part that genuinely broke my brain.

In the background of that same photo, behind our boat.

There was another vessel. And you could read the name on the side.

*Velha Noite.*

The ship that vanished two years earlier was right there.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
