Car stopped dead in a tunnel at midnight (true horror story)

I wasn't going to post this but it's been sitting in my head and I need people to know this actually happened.

Fall 2023. I was a guy in my 30s commuting between Seoul and Yangpyeong every day, living in a small country house there with my wife while working at an IT company in Gangnam. Late nights were normal for me but that particular night I didn't leave until past 11pm.

There's this tunnel on the national road heading toward Yangpyeong. Maybe 200 meters long. Completely unremarkable. I'd driven through it a hundred times.

That night was different.

The second I entered, the radio just. died. Replaced by static. I figured okay, signal issue, tunnels do that. But then the ENGINE cut out. My car rolled to a stop right in the middle of the tunnel.

I tried to restart it. Turned the key and the interior lights flickered and went out. Complete darkness. Not "kinda dark." PITCH BLACK.

Okay fine, I'll use my phone flashlight. Except my phone, which had over 50% battery, just... turned off. By itself. No warning.

So there I am. Sitting in total darkness in a dead car in a tunnel at 11pm. Alone.

That's when I heard it.

Something from the far end of the tunnel. A dragging sound. I told myself it was wind. It wasn't wind. It sounded like someone dragging a heavy chain across asphalt and it was getting CLOSER.

I stared through the windshield into the dark and saw nothing. The sound kept coming. Closer. Closer.

And then it stopped. Right next to my car.

The lights came back on.

Engine started on its own.

Phone turned back on.

Everything just... normal again.

I floored it out of that tunnel and drove home shaking. Sat in my living room for like an hour just staring at nothing. Didn't sleep.

Next day I told my coworkers. One of them went quiet and said "yangpyeong ○○ tunnel? yeah I've heard stuff about that place. someone died there in a crash a while back."

So I looked it up.

There had been a series of accidents in that tunnel a few years earlier. Multiple fatalities. And after that, reports started coming in of cars stopping for no reason, weird sounds, the whole thing.

I still drive through it sometimes. Late at night.

I always slow down now. Just automatically.
