Ghost story: the last train at Jecheon Station (Chungbuk)

okay I wasn't going to post this but here we go.

So there's this thing people say about Jecheon Station in North Chungcheong Province. After the last train pulls in, people keep seeing someone boarding and getting off on the empty platform. Except. No train stops there at that hour.

Winter 2021. I was doing a short-term contract gig at a small publisher near Jecheon Station. Late nights I'd walk past the station on the way back to my place, and that station at night was always just... wrong. Quiet in a way that felt too quiet. Like the silence was doing something.

First time something felt off was a Friday night. Light snow coming down, maybe 11:50pm, and I'm walking past the station when I hear it. A train stopping. That specific sound of brakes and metal.

"already the last train?"

I looked over without really thinking about it. And there was no train. Just the tracks, this faint light, and a man walking down from the end of the platform. Gray coat. Head down. He stopped suddenly and turned around.

He looked right at me.

Except his eyes were completely empty. His face was blurry, like I was looking at him through frosted glass.

Then my phone buzzed. Unknown number.

"The last train is arriving soon. Please prepare to board."

There was no train. I had no reservation. It was the wrong time for any of this.

I basically ran back to my place. Next morning I asked a station worker if any trains ran that late. He shook his head without hesitating.

"Last train's at 11:40. Nothing stops here after that."

After that it kept happening. Few more times I'd pass the station around the same hour and there'd be someone standing at the end of the platform. Different people, different clothes every time. But always. ALWAYS. Their faces were blurred. And they were all staring at the tracks.

One of the local residents told me about it eventually.

"There were some accidents there before. People who missed the last train and tried to cross the tracks illegally, got hit. Died. And ever since then... people say they keep seeing someone trying to get on."

Then came December 31st of that year. Working late, heading home, I stopped in front of Jecheon Station.

Midnight. Snow coming down hard.

There was a train sitting there.

A real train. Doors open. Soft red light inside.

And something said to me: "This is the last stop. Will you board?"

I literally started to step forward. One foot off the ground. And then someone grabbed my arm hard.

Random guy passing by. I have no idea where he came from.

"Don't get on. That's not a real train."

He was gone. I looked back at the platform.

Nothing there.

I left Jecheon after that. But even now, reports keep coming in from people near the station. someone heard a train. someone saw a figure standing there.

The last train doesn't come anymore. but maybe someone's still waiting for it.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
