horror story: saw an EYE through the wall gap in my Seoul studio

I wasn't going to post this but honestly it still messes me up.

Spring 2023. I moved into a studio apartment near the goshiwon district in Sillim-dong, Seoul. Super popular area for exam-preppers, rent was cheap, transit was fine. Normal place. The room had that standard officetel layout and the wall next to my bed had a small outlet panel. Totally unremarkable.

Then the scratching started.

Every night. This sound like someone dragging a fingernail across concrete, slow and deliberate. I put earphones in while studying and I could STILL hear it. Through the music. Through everything.

One day a friend came over and just. Pointed at the wall.

"Hey, do you know there's a gap there? Right there, next to your bed."

I went to check. Under the wallpaper, there was this tiny crack. Barely enough to fit one finger. We thought it was funny so I shone my phone flashlight into it as a joke and

I saw an eye.

Someone was on the other side. Looking back at me.

I screamed and ran to the building manager's office. He didn't even flinch. Just went "oh yeah... the student before you kept saying that wall was moving. She left too."

Apparently there's no other unit behind that wall. No hollow space either, structurally. Should've been solid concrete the whole way through.

Next morning I tried to push a piece of furniture over to cover the gap and that's when I heard it.

"I'm here... I'm here with you..."

Whispering. From inside the wall. Close. So close.

I froze completely. Couldn't move for I don't even know how long.

I was out of that apartment within two weeks of signing the lease.

The unit has been vacant ever since. People who walk by say the window is sometimes open when it shouldn't be. That you can see eyes between the curtains.

And recently someone noticed the listing posted at the real estate office.

"Available immediately. Note: gap in wall."

(spoiler: nobody has taken it)

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
