Horror story: the escape room with no key. and no record of existing.

okay I wasn't going to post this but.

A Seoul escape room cafe. Customers occasionally report that "the game never ends" in one specific room. The owner's explanation? That room doesn't exist in their system.

Fall 2024. Me and my friends hit up an escape room cafe near Jongno one evening. We were big horror theme people so obviously the new "Underground Detention Cell" concept had us locked in (pun intended). We booked it, showed up, got the rundown.

"You've been kidnapped. Find the clues. Escape. 60 minutes."

Door closes. Lights go out.

When the lights came back on we were in this narrow cement room. Paint peeling off the walls. An old vacuum tube radio in the corner. A beat-up metal bed. We started working through the puzzles. Clues, keys, padlocks, the whole thing. It was actually getting fun.

And then 60 minutes passed. Door didn't open.

We hit the help button. Nothing. Grabbed the walkie-talkie to call for staff. Static. Just static.

Somewhere around the 90 minute mark I found a small hole in one of the walls. Like, just barely wide enough to fit your hand through. I looked inside.

There was another room on the other side.

And there was someone sitting in it.

White shirt. Shoulders slumped forward. He didn't look up. Didn't move. He looked like he'd been sitting there for a very long time.

I frantically tried the staff call again. Nothing. My friends were losing it at this point, full panic mode.

Then the radio crackled on.

"There is no escape. This room... was never recorded."

We SCREAMED. Like genuinely feral screaming. Eventually the door opened and the staff member just walked in completely normal like

"Game over! Did you enjoy it?"

Afterward we checked the monitoring room with the manager. The room we played in? No booking record. No CCTV footage. Nothing.

We had booked Room 2. We walked out of Room 3. A room the staff didn't even know existed.

A few days later one of my friends went back to that cafe alone. He said he saw a photo pinned up in the staff break room.

"Missing person. November 2019. Last seen after escape room experience. No contact since."

The photo was of the man he had seen sitting in that room.
