horror story: the last car ever spotted in norway's lillehammer tunnel

okay I wasn't going to post this but here we go.

So back in winter 2020, a family rented a car somewhere near Lillehammer, Norway. They drove into a tunnel. CCTV caught them going in. Nobody caught them coming out. The car, the family, all of it. Just. Gone. The story got reported quietly in the news and then basically nothing.

I heard about it on the radio during a trip through northern Europe. And I happened to be driving near Lillehammer. So obviously I had to find this tunnel.

Locals did NOT want to talk about it. One guesthouse owner said "that tunnel has always been strange" and then just... put a single candle in my room and walked away. I did not ask for the candle. She did not explain the candle.

The place is called the Stavsseter Tunnel. It barely showed up on maps. My GPS refused to register it as a destination at all. I eventually found it anyway, deep in the mountains, buried in snow, 1.5km long and completely isolated. The entrance was rusted. There were faint tire tracks but no signs of life.

I parked and walked in on foot.

It was SO quiet inside. Not like regular quiet. Like the air itself had been removed. No wind, no dripping water, nothing. Complete silence.

I'm walking with my phone flashlight and I see something on the wall. A handprint. Red.

I keep going. There are what look like car parts scattered on the ground. And carved into the wall next to them, scratched like someone did it with their fingernails: **"Hjelp."** That's Norwegian for "help."

The thing is. All of it looked recent.

I'm about halfway through when my phone just dies. Screen goes black. Won't turn back on. I panic and turn around to head back toward the entrance and.

The entrance is gone. I walked a straight line. There was no curve. But behind me there was just darkness, no light, nothing.

Then a light turned on at the far end of the tunnel. Headlights, sort of. But yellow and old-looking. Wrong.

I ran toward it because what else was I going to do.

There was an old sedan parked against the tunnel wall. Someone was sitting inside.

I knocked on the window.

The figure slowly turned its head and looked directly at me. Pale face. Eyes that just. Stared. And without opening its mouth it said:

"You're next."

That's the last thing I remember.

I woke up in my own car outside the tunnel. Doors locked. Temperature minus 20 outside. The clock had jumped from 11pm to 3am.

My phone was back on.

And in my camera roll there was one photo I did not take. Me, standing inside the tunnel, facing away from the camera.

I went in alone.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
