I wasn't going to post this but here we go.
Winter 2023. I was doing a part-time gig (알바) at a small clothing store in Dongseongno underground shopping mall in Daegu. Third unit from the exit, right in the middle of everything. Good foot traffic, decent location. Normal stuff.
Except there was this one rule.
"The 9pm shutter MUST be closed by two people. Never alone."
I thought it was just some weird superstition. Laughed it off. Then I stayed late on my first closing shift and had to pull the shutter down by myself.
Locked it. Turned to leave.
*click.*
The shutter started rising. Slowly. By itself.
I pulled it back down. It held for a bit. Then went back up again. I kept doing it. Same thing every time. I genuinely started wondering if I was losing my mind.
Next day I told my manager. He just looked at me with zero expression and goes:
"You know there was a fire here before, right? One of the employees couldn't get out. Trapped behind the shutter. After that... it started moving on its own."
I didn't fully believe him. But then the other stuff started.
CCTV footage showing clothes hangers swinging in an empty store. The register turning itself on. Nobody there. Just.
The hangers.
Swinging.
Then one night during closing I looked up at the mirror on the wall and there was writing on it. Faint. Like something had been traced into the glass with wet fingers.
"도와줘"
"Help me."
I quit after that. On my last day I went in early on purpose and waited by the shutter alone.
It started rising.
And in the glass panel of the store. A woman's face. Just sitting there in the reflection. Not smiling. Not crying. Eyes locked on me.
I left and didn't look back.
Apparently the security guard now handles that specific shutter separately at 9pm every night. They keep it propped open so it can't close on its own.
"If you hear the door close," someone told me, "don't answer. That's the door opening from the inside."
