Horror story: the woman in the rearview mirror on Songnisan road

Okay I wasn't going to post this but I need people to know about this road.

Late fall 2023. I drove out to a photography club workshop near Songnisan National Park in North Chungcheong Province. Three hours from Seoul. It was peak autumn foliage season so people came from all over the country for shots of the mountain.

The event ran super late and I was heading back to Boeun town. Alone. Winding mountain road, barely any streetlights, cell signal basically nonexistent.

That's when it started.

I was driving through the mountain pass and caught something weird in my rearview mirror. At first I thought it was just hair. Like a shadow or something. But no. It was a shape. In my back seat. Slowly. Raising. Its head.

I stopped the car and spun around.

Empty.

The back seat was completely empty.

I floored it down the mountain and didn't stop.

When I got to my accommodation I checked my dashcam footage. 11:38 PM. And there it was, clear as anything on one side of the frame. A woman's face with long hair hanging down, rising up into view in the rearview mirror angle.

I was shaking. I started searching for incidents on that road.

Found an old news article. 2018. A car rollover accident on the Songnisan road. Records showed the driver had a female passenger. Only one body was ever found. And the dashcam footage from that car? No evidence of two people being inside.

After that incident other drivers started sharing stuff.

"I was alone in my car. Someone was in my rearview mirror. Long hair. Mouth open. Smiling."

I've had my rearview mirror angled down ever since that night. If I ever have to drive that road again. I'm not looking up.
