I slammed on the brakes.
Wait. There was definitely nobody there? I thought maybe I imagined it so I turned on the interior light and looked back.
....the car was empty. obviously.
So then I looked at the seat where the woman had been sitting and thought okay what did I even see, sat back down, turned the light off, and checked the rearview mirror.
...she was sitting there.
I felt my whole body go cold staring at that mirror.
Turned the light back on and looked again.
...the seat was empty.
I started getting annoyed trying to figure out what I kept seeing. like what is happening to me.
"I'm dead tired, what am I doing. just GO and sleep."
So I turned the light off, didn't look at the mirror, and just drove.
Hardly any traffic, just greenhouses and snow along the road, quiet area. but for some reason I could NOT go fast that day.
The state I was in felt sus to me, and I kept thinking what if I get into an accident in this pitch dark place, so I was just. tense the whole drive.
