[Japanese urban legend] 'She's going to curse me until I die'

I wasn't going to post this but a friend told me this story and I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it.

So my friend had a little sister who was living alone in Tokyo. At some point she just... stopped reaching out. He figured she was busy, you know, becoming an adult, building her own life. He left her alone.

Then the police called.

She had taken her own life. The note said she'd been having an affair with her boss at work. She got pregnant. He dropped her. And she couldn't take it anymore.

My friend lost it. COMPLETELY lost it. He grabbed her funeral portrait and her ashes and got on the next thing to Tokyo.

He went to her workplace first, demanded they bring the boss out. But the guy was already gone. Apparently the company quietly pushed him out to protect their image. My friend tracked down one of his sister's friends, begged her for the address.

He ran to the guy's apartment. Rang the bell over and over. Nothing. Pounded on the door until finally, the guy opened up.

My friend showed him the portrait. Told him to get on his knees RIGHT NOW and apologize. And then he said something to really twist the knife:

"You think my sister forgave you?? She shows up at my bedside EVERY NIGHT crying. If you don't apologize she'll never rest in peace!"

And the guy just... looked at him. So tired. Like he hadn't slept in weeks. A bitter little smile. And he said:

"That's not possible. Please don't say such things."

My friend thought he was being mocked. Got even angrier.

"What do you mean not possible?! Apologize!! Let her move on!!"

And the guy looked at him with that same exhausted face and said:

"It's pointless. I've apologized so many times. She won't forgive me. She's right here beside me right now, staring at me. She says she's going to keep cursing me... until the day I die."
