i made my dad park around the corner so no one would see his truck

okay so my dad works as a cleaner. back when i was in elementary school he drove a truck for work, and i was SO embarrassed by it that i used to make him drop me off around the corner where nobody could see. like every single day he would just. drive all the way around. no complaints.

then one day a friend spotted him anyway.

i panicked and tried to drag her away like 'okay cool let's GO' but my dad called her over and bought her snacks. just casually, like that's a normal thing to do.

and my friend goes 'you're so lucky your dad comes to pick you up.'

so i was like, trying to save face, and i said 'but... he drives a truck, isn't that weird??'

and she just looked at me and said 'i think trucks are cool though.'

and i wanted to disappear. i genuinely felt so pathetic in that moment.

it's been a while since this happened but i went home and cried.
