saw something at Starbucks before covid that I still think about

This was before covid hit, so nobody was wearing masks.

I was at a Gangnam Starbucks waiting for my wife, just vibing with an iced americano. There was this young woman sitting diagonally across from me, SO pretty, and I'm like okay I'll just stare at my phone to be normal. But honestly? I kept accidentally noticing people around me glancing at her too. That's how striking she was.

Then this guy comes and just. sits. down. right in front of her.

At first I thought oh, boyfriend maybe? But the way he was looking at her felt weird. Not like he knew her. He says in this low voice:

"Do you remember me?"

And she goes:

"No, I don't think I have any interest in that direction."

Bro.

The whole table, actually the whole Starbucks, was no longer a normal coffee shop. It was a STAGE. Everyone pretending not to watch, pretending not to listen, but we were all watching, we were all listening. All of us silently rooting for this woman like we were extras in her movie. What happens next was the whole point.

The guy says nothing. Just picks up his coffee with his left hand and starts slowly sipping it.

And that's when we all saw it. The ring. On his left hand. Glinting.

Not accidentally showing it either. Deliberately lifting his left hand. Slowly. Letting the ring catch the light like a certified theatrical moment.

So then... does knowing he's married make him MORE dangerous or less? Because she clearly already clocked the ring when she sat down, and still didn't move.

I had to leave before I found out what happened and honestly it haunts me a little.
