I was selfish and he drove an hour every night in the snow anyway

So I met this guy when I was 21 and he was 27. We didn't have a car, either of us. My place was up this scary hill and I was genuinely terrified walking it alone at night, especially when it was snowing or raining. But he'd drive an hour to pick me up. Every single time. No matter the weather.
I was 21 so obviously I was a dumbass and just took it for granted, you know? But then we hit the 5 year mark and it was winter, snowing, and he dropped me off like always. I watched him walk back to his car from the window and I just... broke. I could see his breath in the streetlight and he looked so cold and I realized he had to drive an hour back HOME in that. Alone. In the freezing dark.
I literally cried so hard that night thinking about how lonely and cold he must be. Like actually bawled.
And I'm sitting here realizing I'd been selfish the whole time. Taking and taking.
We ended up getting married. We have a 4 year old daughter now. Recently I asked him if those 5 years of driving were hard on him and he was like... "nah, leaving you alone at night would've been harder."
I genuinely think THAT'S love.
