The friendly woman who followed me home when I was 7

I wasn't going to post this but it's been 12 years and I still think about it.

So when I was like 6 or 7, first or second grade, my parents both worked full-time. Most days they'd drop me off at my aunt's place or a friend's house. The rest of the time I was just... playing outside at the park near our apartment building. I had a key to our unit but my parents were super strict about one rule: never open the door alone. Their logic was someone could follow you in from behind. Burglar, stranger, whoever.

Anyway. That evening me and my friend were playing at the park, which you could literally see from our apartment window. And then this woman with long hair just walks up to us. Super casual, super friendly. Asked our names, what school we went to, what food we liked. Normal questions. Normal voice. Nothing felt off at the time.

Then my friend was like "it's getting dark, I'm going home" and just left.

And the woman turned to me and said, hey, let's go play at your place.

And I. I just nodded. I was SEVEN. I didn't think anything of it. I was actually excited?? like wow I get to play at my own apartment for once instead of going to my aunt's. I grabbed my key, ran to the front door, put it in the lock and started turning it.

And then from down the hallway I heard my aunt SCREAMING at me. "What do you think you're doing!!" She came running.

I turned around to explain and that's when I heard it. Behind me. The woman made this sound. Like a tsk. This quiet little tongue click.

And then she ran. Just bolted.

I collapsed into my aunt crying and I couldn't stop.

I still think about it honestly. What was she planning to do once she got inside.
