The Highway That Calls You: Nevada's Vanishing Route 14

okay I wasn't going to post this but.

Somewhere in the Nevada desert there's a highway that almost no locals use. No official address. Doesn't show up on maps. People just call it Route 14. And almost nobody who drives it comes back.

Summer 2015. I was doing a cross-country road trip when my GPS just... decided to route me somewhere weird. "Follow Route 14 for 25 miles." The road wasn't on Google Maps. Wasn't anywhere. But my AC had just died in the middle of the desert and it was the closest road so I took it.

The road was SO CLEAN. Like weirdly, impossibly smooth. Both sides just wasteland. No streetlights, no signs, no rest stops. Nothing.

That's when the sun started going down.

There was a figure. Way down the road. Black suit, standing completely still, and I couldn't see a face. I drove closer and it just... vanished. I floored it out of panic but here's the thing. The speedometer went blank. Like the car wasn't registering movement at all. Like I wasn't moving.

Then the radio crackled and a man's voice came through the static.

"You're the one who chose this road. You can't go back."

I SLAMMED the brakes. Car didn't stop. Just kept going.

And then on both sides of the road, in the wasteland, there were dozens of people standing there. All in black. Heads down. Facing the road.

The car stopped on its own.

I passed out.

Woke up in a hospital. They said I'd been missing for two days.

The police found my car not on any road. On top of a sand dune. No tire tracks anywhere around it.

And in the passenger seat there was something written in the dust. Like someone had scratched it with their fingers.

14 marks. Exactly 14.

After that, every record of Route 14 disappeared completely. But apparently there's an unofficial report from the US road authority that says:

"Route 14 isn't something you choose. It's something that calls you."
