okay so this actually happened and I need to tell someone because I'm still thinking about it.
my neighborhood is pretty small-town, like one mart handles everything. bread, ramen, clothes, furniture. if it exists, you buy it there. weekends are already chaotic but this particular day was EXTRA because there was a flea market going on and the place was absolutely packed.
I almost turned around at the entrance. then a staff member caught my eye and smiled, said "welcome!" and honestly that tiny moment of warmth carried me inside. I had no idea what was waiting.
within like two minutes I hear it. this woman. dragging a massive cart around, barking at every employee she could find. I tried to ignore it. I genuinely tried.
then she SCREAMS across the store: "EXCUSE ME where are my tangerines?? find them RIGHT NOW."
everyone stops. she's standing there with this blank entitled expression while a staff member stutters out the location. and she goes "why are you so SLOW?? just say it faster!!!"
I was literally frozen. like ma'am. if the tangerines aren't where you want them just. go to a different store?? why is this person's problem??
anyway it got worse (spoiler: it always does).
she rolls up to the register, dumps her stuff, then immediately goes "how much is this? ...that's too expensive, give me a discount." the cashier had to call a manager. a manager. for this woman's vibes. they actually gave her the discount.
then she picks up another item and goes "you need to check the expiration date for me." the date that is PRINTED ON THE PACKAGE. that she could read herself. she just wanted someone to do it for her.
everyone around was whispering. she knew people were watching and she did not care one single bit. she fed off it.
then came the checkout screaming because apparently the total was wrong, a few items got misscanned. the cashier was trying to fix it, clearly flustered, and this woman is going "WHY are you so slow just HURRY UP" and I was gripping my basket so hard.
I almost said something. had the words ready. but I stopped myself because I knew, I KNEW, getting involved would just make her worse.
and then.
SHE COLLAPSED.
oh my god. she just... went down. everyone rushed over, people gasping, someone grabbed her arm. she looked up with this weak little "oh I'm dizzy..." and sank into a chair.
and then. AND THEN. she looked around at everyone crowding around her and she SMILED. this little smug smile. "I'm fine, just a bit tired."
it was FAKE. she faked it. the whole thing. for what?? the attention?? she got her discount, she already had everyone staring, and she still needed to fake-faint??
I'm dead. I cannot.
after she paid and walked out like nothing happened, people just stood there in silence for a second. then everyone started talking at once. "the audacity." "how does someone live like that."
I went home, put my groceries away, and genuinely needed a moment to recover. I go to that mart way less now. my mental health simply cannot.
anyway if you ever encounter someone like this at a store, do NOT engage. just walk away. pretend you didn't see it. that's the only correct move. trust me on this one. LMAOOO
