The Plague Witch (European Horror Legend)

Okay so this is a horror story that's been floating around Korean urban legend circles and it goes HARD.

Sixteenth century Europe. Small village. Gothic buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, the whole aesthetic. And there's this legend people pass down called "the Plague Witch."

So when the Black Death was sweeping through Europe, there was this woman named Elizabeth living on the outskirts of town. She studied herbs and healing. Tried to help people. And the village rewarded her for that by... calling her a witch. Because people kept dying anyway and they needed someone to blame.

One night the mob dragged her to the town square. She said she was innocent. Nobody cared. They burned her alive. And with her last breath she looked at all of them and said:

"You did this to me. This village will never be free of disaster. I WILL come back. And you will know my pain."

Centuries pass. Village modernizes. But every year on the anniversary of her death the villagers still light candles to calm her spirit. Just in case. (spoiler: just in case was the right call.)

Fast forward to the early 2000s. Young doctor named Anna moves to town and starts working at the village clinic. And almost immediately... a mystery illness starts spreading. High fever, rashes, bad cough. Spreading like wildfire. Nobody knows what it is.

People start whispering. The curse is back. It's Elizabeth.

Anna hears the rumors and does what any reasonable doctor would do. Digs through centuries of village records. Finds Elizabeth's story. Finds out her old homesite is somewhere in the forest.

So she goes. Alone. Into the dark forest. With a compass and a flashlight because she is built different.

Deep in the woods she finds the ruins of Elizabeth's home. Most of it is rubble but there's a stone altar still standing in the center, completely intact. And sitting on it... a worn old diary. Elizabeth's diary.

Anna reads the whole thing. The herbs, the treatments, the heartbreak of being abandoned by everyone she tried to save. And then she gets to the last entry.

The night before she was burned? Elizabeth made a deal with a demon. She traded something to curse the village. The curse wasn't just dying words. It was a CONTRACT.

Anna decides the altar has to go. She starts pulling the stones apart.

Immediately the fog rolls in. Cold wind out of nowhere. And then Elizabeth's figure just... appears in the mist. Voice full of pain.

"You cannot break my curse. This village will suffer with me. Forever."

Anna doesn't run. She looks this centuries-old cursed spirit dead in the eye and goes: "Elizabeth. I understand your pain. But these people aren't your enemies. They won't make the same mistake again."

She pours holy water on the altar and starts praying. Elizabeth SCREAMS and disappears.

Altar destroyed. Darkness lifts. Illness fades. Village saved.

The villagers light candles for Elizabeth one more time, but different this time. Not out of fear.

Anna preserved the ruins. Kept telling Elizabeth's story. Because someone had to.
