The Room With No Number (Nakseongdae Goshiwon Horror Story)

I wasn't going to post this but it's been eating at me.

January 2021. I moved into a goshiwon near Nakseongdae in Gwanak-gu, Seoul to prep for the civil service exam. 300,000 won a month (roughly $220). Shared shower. Zero soundproofing. But the location worked so whatever.

There was a rumor though. Somewhere in the building, there was a room that shouldn't exist.

I first heard about it from this guy Junhyeok who lived down the hall.

"Hey, did you notice there's something next to room 214?"

214 was literally right across from my room. I shook my head.

"That's just a wall, isn't it?"

He didn't smile. Not even a little.

"It's not a wall. There's a door. But it has no number."

So the next night I actually went and looked. And. I'm not joking. There was a door there. Barely visible, painted over so many times it was basically flush with the wall. Faint outline of a lock mechanism. And carved into the surface, tiny little letters.

*조용히 하세요. "Please be quiet."*

The thing that got me. The scratches weren't from the outside. It looked like something had carved them FROM INSIDE. Like fingernails dragging through paint.

A few nights later, around 2am, I was walking to the bathroom and passed that door.

And I heard something.

Movement. From inside. Then this soft sound, like paper being slid under a door.

I went back to my room fast. Didn't think too hard about it. Five minutes later something slid under MY door.

A folded note.

"I can hear everything. Please be quiet."

I froze.

I hadn't made a single sound. My room was silent. And the handwriting. god the handwriting. Jagged and uneven, like it was scratched out rather than written. Like whoever wrote it was barely holding the pen.

Next morning I asked the building manager about it.

"Was there always a room next to 214?"

Her face went completely flat.

"That room... doesn't exist anymore. Don't worry about it. Focus on studying."

So I looked it up online.

Found an old post. From 2017. A student was found dead inside a room at a Nakseongdae goshiwon. Door was locked from the inside. His diary was still there. Last entry said:

*"I keep hearing sounds. Every night, someone on the other side of the wall is calling my name."*

After that, the goshiwon apparently just... erased the room. Painted over the door. Removed the number. Made it a room that officially doesn't exist.

I moved out that same week.

Still think about it sometimes. Whether someone is still in there.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
