True horror from Korea: the night something followed a truck driver on Misiryeong Pass

· 0 0 0

I wasn't going to post this but it's been living in my head rent free so here we go.

This is a true story, retold from someone who heard it directly from the guy it happened to. The guy's older brother used to drive freight in Gangwon Province back in the early 2000s, and he'd regularly take Misiryeong Old Pass. If you don't know it, think: narrow mountain road, brutal steep grades, fog so thick you can barely see your own hood. There's a tunnel now so nobody really uses the old road anymore, but back then? You had no choice.

So one night, late, the brother is hauling cargo over the pass. Visibility is maybe 10 meters, headlights just getting swallowed by fog. He's white-knuckling it, totally focused.

Then he checks his rearview mirror.

No cars behind him. Nothing. But there's this faint light. Flickering. Bouncing up and down like a bicycle reflector would.

He thinks, "...who the hell is cycling up a mountain pass at this hour??" and then just. Forces himself to focus on the road ahead.

Except the light keeps getting closer.

He slows down. It still follows. So he checks the mirror again and he almost SCREAMS.

The light is right behind his truck now. Like, right there. And underneath it he can see a shape. Long limbs. Long arms. Moving on all fours, fast, like it was crawling but KEEPING UP WITH A TRUCK on a steep incline.

Every hair on his body stands up. He floors it.

The truck roars up the grade. The thing does not slow down. It gets closer. And then he can see the top of it starting to appear over the edge of his cargo bed, like it's about to grab on.

Matted hair. Long arms just hanging there.

He stops looking. He just drives. Eyes forward. Surviving.

Eventually the fog starts thinning and he can see the summit marker up ahead. The presence behind him... just stops. Gone. No more sounds, no more following.

He pulls over on the shoulder and checks the cargo area. Nothing. Nobody.

Okay. Okay. He gets back in the cab.

And that's when he sees it on the passenger door handle.

an old handkerchief.

Wet. Caked with dirt.

He throws it out immediately. Obviously.

But from that night on, he keeps dreaming about it. The handkerchief. Just. Coming back.

What was following him on that road? He still doesn't know. He never figured out why it was following him specifically, or where it went. And that handkerchief is gone but it is never really gone, you know?

Anyway. Maybe don't drive mountain roads alone at night. Just a thought.

Enjoyed this? Tap the heart.
